In June of 2016, Instagram incorporated an algorithm to the dismay (and detriment) of many accounts. In April of 2017, Instagram started shutting down several bot companies that were over-inflating the amount of likes and comments that accounts were receiving, further decreasing the engagement that people were enjoying on their accounts. Sure, I noticed a drop in engagement on my account too, but I kept on with the strategies that I teach in this workshop, and now my engagement rates are back up, even in higher than before in some cases, all while I still hear people lamenting that their engagement is low.
As Instagram continues to evolve, more companies are focusing on the engagement rates of influencers rather than the number of followers that one account has. Sure, it's great to be popular, but a business or brand is not going to see a return on their investment when they're paying an account whose audience doesn't like and comment on their posts--where is the influence there?
